“It’s a pleasure to attest to the abilities/capabilities of Captain Coates. His yachting skills and his having attained field grade rank in the Armed Forces of the United States speak to both of these traits. I have known and boated with him for several years. He has good communication skills, does not shy away from responsibility and conducts his business in a direct, professional manner. In short; a good man!”  William Iverson, Captain, Northwest Airlines, Retired. (Owner 42’ Grand Banks Classic - AURORA)

“Most efficient & best person I’ve ever known...really knows his stuff.”  Marcia Campbell (Owner Cal36 - DIABETICAL II)

“I am new to power boating and we do not own a yacht ourselves. Last year I took a three-day, hands-on introductory course with a yacht charter company. Then we charted a 36-ft Grand Banks for a weeklong cruise. This year we wanted to move up to a 42-ft Grand Banks. I knew I needed more practice in vessel handling and docking to be prepared for this next cruise. Fortunately, someone referred me to Captain Coates. I knew from our first phone conversation that Captain Coates understood how to impart his knowledge to a novice skipper. My crew and I ended up spending about five hours with Captain Coates. We all agreed it was invaluable preparation for this summer’s cruise. Captain Coates is a gifted instructor. He enjoys teaching and that makes the learning experience pleasurable for the student. His enthusiasm for boating was contagious and his upbeat disposition a delight. We recommend his services without reservation.”  William Ruddell, Rosalind Renshaw, Carol McKinstry, Bellevue, WA

I want to extend to you my sincere thanks for the delivery of my boat from Long Beach, California to Tacoma, Washington.  Our voyage between June 2, 2006 and June 16, 2006 was educational and rewarding to me....I wanted to experience as a crew member of being involved in bringing a 38' boat all the way up the West Coast. After contacting you and discussing the delivery, I became more convinced that I was making the right decision because of your positive attitude, knowledge and obvious affection for boating….I particularly appreciated your approach to pricing in that you were willing to bear some of the risk of time delay due to weather,… I am thankful that I took your advice during our pre-departure discussions to supply the boat with the necessary spares. Your understanding of the weather was above all critical and apparent to me as we rounded Point Conception. Wind and wave height was what it was all about for the next four days all the way to Half Moon Bay.  I thought your decisions on when to travel and when to stay put was logical, safe and responsible….I especially want to thank you for imparting your knowledge of all the aspects of boating during our two weeks together. As a new and inexperienced boat owner I felt that your openness and willingness to share your knowledge and experiences were worth the delivery price alone.  Mike Lingerfelt (Owner 38' Defever - NEVERLYN)

I just wanted to tell you how much we appreciated the care that you took in delivering our new boat from Alaska to Seattle. I couldn’t have been happier with the level of professionalism, can do spirit, and fun attitude you all brought to the job. You handled it expertly and brought it safely to our homeport. I can honestly say it was a pleasure doing business with you. All that remains for me to do is thank you for your efficient service and to confirm that I will be quick to recommend your firm to others in need of deliveries.  Jim and Sally Todd (Owner 47'  Bayliner - DREAM CATCHER)

I would most certainly recommend Capt. Coates and Port to Port for anyone looking for assistance to move their vessel in a meticulous, safe and extensively planned manner.  After recently purchasing CHINOOK, a 49' Alaskan in San Diego, we asked the local boating community in Seattle for recommendations for a Captain to move our vessel to Tacoma from San Diego.  From the positive recommendations, there was no doubt who we would ask and we were certainly not disappointed.  In addition to simply, "moving the vessel" Captain Coates provided extensive guidance, ideas, and troubleshooting to help improve various aspects of the vessel to fit our cruising style.  If you need to move your vessel or simply need a professional, safe piloting assistance, I'd certainly recommend you give Captain Coates a call!  Wayne Desberg (Owner 49' Alaskan - CHINOOK)
